IRON MOUNTAIN- The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain hosted a national event for veterans today.
VA medical centers across the country celebrated the 7th annual VA 2K “Walk and Roll” event. The 1.2 mile walk was created to help support homeless veterans and sees a number of participants from employees to veterans.
“The one in Iron Mountain is kind of unique because we cover the whole U.P.,” said Jeana Klingelhutz, Local VA 2K Coordinator. “For us, we’re walking for homeless veterans that spans a longer distance than say any other VA across the nation.”
Students at Woodland Elementary even got involved in the walk by creating posters for the event. On average, the walk attracts between 200 and 300 participants in Iron Mountain every year.
