ISHPEMING– Tonight, volunteers sorted through items to get ready for Saturday’s free shopping day for families in need. It’s part of the 9th Annual Project: Keep Kids Warm. Since mid-September, volunteers have been working on labeling bags, dropping them off at homes and picking up bags filled with coats, hats, mittens and boots…just to name a few.

With harsh winters in the Upper Peninsula, project coordinator Richard Derby says it’s important to make sure kids have the adequate amount of warm clothes needed for the chilly months.

Saturday’s collection will be from 9am until noon right here at the Ishpeming Armory. Derby says that people do not need any proof that they are in need and can just come right in for the free shopping event.
