CHASSELL – Authorities are still searching for three missing fishermen in Lake Superior.

The Michigan State Police Calumet Post is advising that the Coast Guard is still searching the area in helicopter and boat, attempting to locate Keith Karvonen, 61 of Atlantic Mine, Steven Chartre, 43 of Ishpeming, and Chartre’s nine-year-old son Ethan.

The three were reported missing Saturday when they didn’t return from an afternoon of Lake Trout fishing. Authorities say the trio set out on a 16-foot boat from Portage Entry in the Chassell area. 

They were reported missing Saturday night and a search was immediately put into action.

Asissting in the search are US Coast Gaurd Stations Portage, Sault Ste Marie and Traverse City,  The Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement, Keweenaw Bay Tribal Police, Baraga Village Police, the Houghton and Baraga Sheriff’s Departments, Houghton Police and Superior Search and Rescue.
