Special election to fill John Kivela’s seat to be held in November

LANSING – Details have been announced for the special election to fill the 109th District seat left in the Michigan State House, vacated by the death of John Kivela.

The election will be held on Tuesday November 7th, 2017. There are a number of important dates prior to the election.

Candidates will have until June 6th to properly file for the election to get their names on the ballot and until June 9th to withdraw from the election. A special primary election will take place on August 8th. After that, the deadline for candidates without a major party affiliation will be in the middle of August.

The next date in the process is the general election in November.
