MARQUETTE– Around 8:00 a.m. today, Marquette Fire Department was dispatched to 401 Lincoln Ave (Sundara House) for a general fire alarm. Dispatch informed that there was possibly a lightning strike to the structure, or nearby.

2052 and 2054 responded. IC and fire crew(s) investigated the building and found that the fire alarm system had sustained damage, and was not functioning properly, possibly from power surge.

The building was searched with no additional issues found. Alarm system was disabled and facility was put on fire watch.

As both engine companies were clearing scene, a structure to the southwest was discovered to be fully engulfed with fire. IC struck a 2nd alarm, and a 2 ½” attack line was deployed to the outbuilding. The physical address of that building is 910 Grant.

Traffic was controlled by Marquette City Police. BLP was also contacted as the electrical supply for the adjacent home was located on a pole that was close enough to the outbuilding to be damaged by radiant heat.

Fire remains under investigation.
