MARQUETTE — The Peter White Public Library in Marquette is bringing the Lord of the Rings to life.
It’s called the Middle Earth Walking Challenge. The goal is to get people outside walking, running or biking.
It’s based on the trek Frodo took in the stories. You can pick up a form to log the miles you’ve traveled.
The 20 people with the longest distances win a prize.
Carolyn McManis is the library programming coordinator. She says, “The main perk is just getting in shape. You know, Marquette is such a beautiful area to walk and to do outdoor activities in the summer. We just want to encourage people to get moving.”
You can earn up to four Peter White Bucks depending on how many milestones you reach in the challenge.
The money can be used to pay fines. Or, make copies and check out movies.
The challenge goes through the end of August and activity logs must be turned in by September 8th.
