There will soon be a tunnel going under US-41 near Menards in Marquette Township.

It will help snowmobilers, hikers and others safely get from one side to the other.

The Marquette Township Board met tonight and officially decided to call the tunnel Pete’s Pass.

It’s named after Peter O’Dovero. He’s a man who helped make the tunnel a reality.

Randy Girard is the Marquette Township Manager. He says, “There came a point in the tunnel project where it was questionable as to whether we were going to be able to come up with enough non- township funds to do it. Mr. O’Dovero stepped with a considerable contribution to make that happen.”

Construction is expected to start some time in April. It could be done as early as August.

The project is being paid for with funds from grants and donations.
