Troopers from the Michigan State Police, Negaunee Post, are investigating a three vehicle accident that also injured a pedestrian.

The accident occurred at 6:45 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 41 near Brebner Road in Marquette County’s Negaunee Township.

Prior to the crash, police say, two dogs were running loose on the highway and the drivers of the vehicles were trying to avoid hitting the dogs.

There was a car stopped on the shoulder of the highway with two pedestrians standing near it. One dog crossed the highway and was hit by a pickup truck towing a trailer. The other dog was running on the highway when another vehicle braked suddenly, swerved out of its lane and was hit by another vehicle. The second vehicle overturned, and struck one of the pedestrians and the parked car as it left the roadway.

Two people were transported by ambulance to UPHS- Marquette.

The eastbound lanes of U.S. 41 were closed for two hours while troopers investigated the scene. During that time, eastbound traffic was slowed and directed to use the paved median.

Further details about the crash will be released after the investigation has been completed.
