On June 6, 2018, troopers from the Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post (Mackinac Island Detail) received a report from two women that they were sexually assaulted on Mackinac Island.

The MSP and Mackinac Island Police Department began an investigation using a number of resources including MSP detectives, undercover officers, polygraph examiners, crime lab personnel, medical personnel, canine team, forensic artist and federal authorities.

The investigation revealed the two women had filed a false police report.

Today, the Mackinac County Prosecutor charged Zinhle Xaba and Bongiwe Mjali, both 23 and from the South Africa, with filing a false police report. It’s a felony.

Both women were working on Mackinac Island under a J1 Student Visa. They have been arraigned in 92nd District Court.
