CHIPPEWA COUNTY, MI – The suspect in an armed kidnapping in Chippewa County has been arraigned. Michael Paul Millette has been charged with one count of Kidnapping, two counts of Assault with intent to Murder, two counts of Assault with a deadly weapon and one count of Felony Firearm. His bond has been set at $1,000,000 cash with a tether and no contact with the victims. He is currently lodged at the Chippewa County Jail and is next due in court in August.

A Chippewa County woman has been returned home safely after she was taken by an armed kidnapper Saturday afternoon.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that the armed suspect confronted a husband and wife in their backyard at approximately 1:30 Saturday afternoon, forcing them into their home at gun point. The suspect then reportedly forced the wife into his vehicle and left.
Responding Deputies were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle a short while later on Mackinac Trail near Rudyard, where he was apprehended without incident. A semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene.
The suspect is due to be arraigned Monday morning in the 91st District Court on the following charges:
-Two counts of Kidnapping
-Two counts of Felonious Assault
-Home Invasion
-Felony use of a Firearm
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Sault Tribe PD, US Border Patrol and the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office.
