LEDGEVIEW, Wisc (WFRV) Two people fell off a cliff this afternoon at a Brown County park, one of them sustaining critical injuries. The accident happened around 4 p.m. Monday at Fonferek’s Glen park in the Town of Ledgeview.
According to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, both of the injured are from DePere: an 18-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman. According to Lt. Tom Ziegler, the 18-year old was trying to retrieve a hat that had fallen off the cliff and on to a branch. He fell 20 feet and landed on rocks below.
The man’s injuries are non-life threatening. However, the woman was taken to Aurora Baycare Hospital with critical injuries. Park goers acknowledge while this area is beautiful, you need to be on guard and use common sense.
“I’m aware of what I’m doing – how close I am to the edge,” said Jimmy Fedovic who visits the park twice a month. “I’ve sat on the edges and read books before. But it sounds like they were doing something they shouldn’t have been doing.”
This is not the first time accidents like this have occurred at Fonferek’s Glen park. In 2007, a Greenleaf family lost a lawsuit it filed against the county, after their 16 -year-old son fell off the cliff, while playing paintball. He broke both legs and bones in his jaw and face.
