STURGEON BAY, Wis. (WFRV-TV) –

After years of controversy Walmart opened its Sturgeon Bay Supercenter Wednesday.

Walmart’s original plan was to build a 185,000 square foot Supercenter along Highway 57-42 which wuold have left its Egg Harbor Road store vacant.

After negotiations with city officials that plan was reduced to a 120,000 square foot store to be built behind the Egg Harbor Road store.

The existing store will be torn down in the next 45 days.  The reason for the changes; a store size that was a better fit for the community and to keep the Egg Harbor Road economic corridor intact.
