UPPER PENINSULA– Weight restrictions are in place on state trunkline highways. These are roads that typically carry M, I, or US designations.
The Michigan Department of Transportation says pavement is more susceptible to damage at this time of year. This year, with such a harsh winter and fluctuating temperatures, we also are seeing more potholes and broken pavement on roadways.
“We’ve started to see it around the U.P. now and not just state roads but on local roads as well,” said Dan Weingarten, Communications Representative, MDOT. “It’s a sign of aging pavement and pavement that’s not in the greatest condition.”
MDOT says potholes that are reported to them are filled but it’s only a temporary fix. To report a pothole, click here.
