Heavy snow is expected Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening across the Upper Peninsula.
There may also be a brief period of light snow and freezing rain late tonight, but the heaviest snow from this storm will occur Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening when snowfall rates could reach 1 to 2 inches per hour.
Though snow will diminish Thursday night, northwest winds increasing to 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph near Lake Superior will lead to areas of blowing snow. Snow accumulations of 9 to 12 inches are expected Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening.
Power outages and tree damage are possible for areas that still have significant ice on power lines and trees. Travel could be very difficult, if not impossible during the heavier snow. The hazardous conditions will impact the evening commute on Thursday and may lin ger into the morning commute Friday.
