DELTA CO. – They were known as one of the more hard hitting, aggressive teams from last season.

This year, you can bet they’re going to be more of the same. We’re talking about, of course, the Escanaba Eskymos.

“It’s great to be back, that’s for sure,” says Craig Kamin, Senior Quarterback. “It’s been a long time since football season ended, it feels like, so it’s just good to get back out here with the boys to work hard and get better.”

Last season saw the ‘Mos finish 9-3, all the while making a deep playoff push. So deep, it’s the furthest they’ve gone in the post season since 1981.

“The goal every year is to make the playoffs and if that’s not your goal then you shouldn’t be here,” says Dave Howes, Escanaba Head Coach. “Our goal is to make the playoffs, still take one game at a time and focus on the task at hand. But we want to make the playoffs again.”

Helping them lead the charge will be senior quarterback Craig Kamin. As the starting QB last season, Kamin will not only be returning under center but also under a new role.

“I’m happy to have our quarterback back from last year, Craig Kamin,” said Howes. “He’s a true leader, he’s working really hard and he’s going to push everyone to be the best they can be.”

“Last year the seniors helped me a lot so now it’s my turn to step it up as I’m a senior this year so it’s more of my role to be a bigger leader than last year, even as quarterback,” said Kamin. “I need to step it up and be a better leader.”

But the fate of the team won’t rely on the shoulders of one individual player. Returning players are ready and they’re hungry for more post-season success.

“We lost a lot of seniors last year but we have a lot of juniors that have stepped it up,” said Brett Guindon, Senior Linebacker. “There are a lot of new seniors filling up those spots and we’re making good teammates and working really well together.”

The Eskymos kick-off their season when they travel to Alpena, Friday, August 24th.
