Highlights and post-game reaction from North Central’s dominating win over Marion, Saturday afternoon. North Central beat Marion, 50-2, and will play in the state final on January 16th.

Marquette, Mich. (WJMN) – It didn’t take long to realize that the North Central Jets were on another level than their opponent, Saturday afternoon.

“It was time to get out there and play some football. There were no more practices to be held, there was nothing left. They needed to get out here and let up some of that pent up energy out,” said Leo Gorzinski, the head coach for the Jets.

North Central dominated their state semifinal game against Marion from start to finish. The Jets took a 36-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back, topping Marion, 50-2. For a team that hadn’t played football in several weeks, the Jets looked like they hadn’t skipped a beat.

“We watched a lot of film on these guys, we figured out what they did and spent a good week of practice, we went hard and we kind of came out here not knowing what to expect, you know, after the couple weeks off. Week put all the nuts and bolts back on and we looked like a well-oiled machine out there,” said Alex Naser, a junior defensive back and wide receiver.

Gorzinski said his team has used heartbreak to fuel them. The Jets fell short of their goal last season, losing to Pickford at home in the regional finals.

“I’ve had eight seniors on this team. They’ve been through heartache. That Pickford game has been brought up all year. That’s fueled these guys from the moment we watched them pick the trophy up at our place,” said Gorzinski.

North Central advances to the division 2 state finals where they will play Portland St. Patrick.

“I know their battle-tested. We’re going to enjoy this one and then tomorrow it’s right back to film,” said Gorzinski.

“We got to work as a unit, you know, we can’t go out there and play individual football. We got to come together. Especially this game, as a team. We just got to keep ourselves together and play hard and play fast,” said Naser.

The Jets will take on Portland St. Patrick this Saturday (January 16th) in Brighton.
