“Obviously with Munising having the season they had and marching straight down to Ford Field and playing for a state championship, those kids were really attractive,” said Northern Michigan football coach Chris Ostrowsky.
Teammates Garrett Blank and Andy Cooper ran over the competition all season for the Munising Mustangs. The duo recently signed to play football at Northern Michgan for coach Chris Ostrowksy and the opportunity to be wildcats was too much to pass up.
“I really like Northern and that was one of the schools that I was kind of interested in going to if i didn’t go to play football, but when I got offered I was really excited and I was like, well, heck yeah!,” said Blank.
“It’s nice just staying close so I can see my family whenever I want, just the U.P. in general. I love it up here, so it’ll be nice to stay,” added Andy Cooper.
Cooper and Blank are not the only ones happy they decided to stay in the Upper Peninsula. NMU coach Chris Ostrowsky is thrilled to bring athletes to Northern with the Mustangs’ winning pedigree.
“They worked so hard and it was such a magical season for that community. We felt like Garrett and Andy both were really special football players, bring a tremendous amount of talent to what we’re trying to do here as a program. They can play in this league,” said Ostrowsky.
Playing at the college level is a dream for many high school athletes, but the fact Cooper and Blank are going together makes it that much sweeter.
“It’ll be fun just having someone else from my high school team to keep going up to the next level and play on the same team again,” said Cooper.
“I know some guys that already go up to Northern. The coaching staff is really nice, but it’s gonna be really nice to have a guy from my high school that I know really well and we’re good friends,” said Blank.
